Lentil Shepherd's Pie | Good Enough To Trick Them All

This is seriously my favourite vego recipe! It's also my go-to meal when I need to feed any carnivorous friends that come for dinner because they love it too!
Servings 6 people

Potato Topping
Mince Meat Substitute
Shepherd's Pie variation
  • 1 packet Beef Stroganoff meal base I've done my research and from what I can see, the Maggie brand is vegetarian friendly.
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup pasata
  • 1 tbs Worcestershire Sauce Most brands contain anchovy so have a think about where you stand on that and substitute for BBQ sauce if you'd prefer.

  1. Oven to 180.
  2. Large frying pan.
  3. Large sauce pan.
  1. Peel, chop & boil potatoes in a large saucepan.
  2. In a large frying pan, fry all Mince Meat Substitute ingredients on a medium heat until the onion is soft.
  3. Reduce the heat on the frying pan and stir in the Shepherd's Pie variation ingredients to the Mince Meat Substitute.
  4. Transfer it all into a large rectangular baking dish & set aside.
  5. Drain the boiled potatoes once they're nice and soft & stir through the rest of Potato Topping ingredients (except cheese).
  6. Cover the pie base with the mashed potato, sprinkle grated cheese on top and bake in the oven until the cheese is crunchy.
